China’s PostgreSQL ecosystem is massive, yet a disconnect remains between its tens of thousands of users and the global development community. As the organizer of HOW 2025 (1,500+ attendees) and PGCONF.Asia, I see a "silent majority" of enterprise users running mission-critical workloads that rarely reach the -hackers mailing list.
This 25-minute talk shares technical insights and friction points gathered from large-scale deployments in finance, government, and the world’s largest wind turbine manufacturer.
We will discuss: - Real-world Pain Points: Specific challenges in high-velocity IoT ingestion, large-scale partitioning, and Oracle-to-PG migration. - Why We Build Downstream: Why projects like IvorySQL and SynchDB were created to fill gaps in vanilla PostgreSQL's extensibility. - A New Pipeline: How the global community can better integrate feedback from these massive industrial use cases to improve the PostgreSQL core.
